I make hand crafted mohair bears as a hobby.
I started about three years ago and discovered the pleasure of working with mohair a couple of years ago. I work full time so I’m usually found sewing with a cat on my lap in the evenings.
I mainly hand sew my bears but occasionally use a machine – but only for the straighter bits; snouts, paws and pads all have to be done by hand or I find myself in a pickle!
Sometimes they can sit there with their ears pinned in place, eyes as well, ready to be sewn but they stay like that for days – I really have to be in the mood to do their faces, after all, it’s very important to a bear that he looks good and it will be with him for a long time!
I like working in different colours, shapes and sizes. Sometimes it difficult to think what a bear will look like when you’re just looking at a flat piece of mohair so, I must admit, there a couple of bears on display here that make me sigh and shake my head – and occasionally, cringe.
The purpose of setting up a website? I’ve done a few craft fairs lately and sold some of my bears. Lots of people picked up business cards (no returns yet!) but several people asked if I had a website they could visit. It had never occurred to me before and, as I’ve some time on my hands lately, I decided to set up my own site.
Thanks for coming to see us.
